The Council of Chalcedon in 451 declared that the Lord Jesus Christ is true God and true man, 100% God and 100% human being. He is one Person or Hypostasis, but two natures. This means that Jesus is not just God himself, but also completely like us, but without sin. It also means that he is not just a really good human being, but God himself, who took on our weakness.
The symbol of the House of Chalcedon is the sword, representing the two cutting edges of Christ's humanity and divinity.
The House of Chalcedon is also represented by the bee, whose honey is pure and refined but inhabits the waxy structure of the honeycomb, like the divinity that dwells in the human body and soul of Jesus.
The patrons of the House of Chalcedon are St Leo the Great, Pope of Rome and defender of the two natures of Christ, and St Euphemia, a martyr of the city of Chaledon whose holy relics vindicated the doctrine of Chalcedon when the Council met in that city.
